Using Labscope with iPad on wired LAN?

Post by user-7226 »

Hi Zeiss

Is it possible to use Labscope on an iPad when it is connected via a wired ethernet connection to LAN? In some of the events I find myself in there is so much wireless interference that the iPad struggles to maintain its connection. Hence trying to find a wired solution.

For reference I am using:
- two microscopes, each with an AxoiCam 208 colour
- both cameras are wired to the LAN of a router I set up specially for the event
- my iPad Air is running Labscope 3.0.1
- I have a lightning to ethernet adapter that allows me to connect the iPad to the router with a cable.

Things I have tried:
- I know the iPad ethernet connector and cabling is OK as I can see and communicate with the router through the cable with WIFi turned off.
- If I connect wirelessly to the router I can see both cameras on Labscope, so the cameras are connecting to the router OK

Here's the issue: If I connect the iPad to the router with a wire, and turn off the iPad WiFi, then Labscope insists on trying to find the microscopes through WLAN - even though WiFi is turned off and there is a wired connection. I cannot see any way to change the global settings for this.

Any help gratefully received

Using Labscope with iPad on wired LAN?

Dear Marty,

We have not yet tested the connection via a Lightning-Ethernet- adapter.
Therefore we cannot make a statement.
Our development will still look at that.

Connect the iPad power supply and usb ethernet adapter into the lightning to usb camera adapter.

Not sure that would work. The issue is not connecting the iPad to the ethernet cable and the wired network - I have managed to do that. The problem appears to be that the Labscope software is only looking for wireless connection, rather than any internet connection (i.e. through WiFi or cable). There does not appear to be any way to force Labscope to use the cabled connection. :(

It does look for wired connections, just that not with iPad. It's meant to be a wireless connection with iPad or iPhone, so I guess there should not be any programming in the software to look for wired apple devices. It looks for wired Windows devices.

I figured that was the case - I appreciate that I am an edge case, but it would presumably be relatively simple to tweak the code to hook up to a wired connection.

You are right, a wired connection with iPad is not possible.

We have give this topic to our development team.
They will check if they will fix it.
