Image transfer from iPAD also via USB port possible

Post by user-3934 »

Hello,

Just want to mention, that an iPAD can be connected with a Windows PC via USB port.

In that case the Fotostream directory on the iPAD is recognized just as a "normal" windows directory.

( In case that no Router is in reach of the iPAD ...)

Best regards,

Good hint, Thorsten, thanks for posting it here.

You should be aware that what you see in Windows Explorer when you connect the iPad, is only the content of the iPad's image storage (also known as the "Camera Roll"), i.e. the images you see when you open the "Photos" App on the iPad:

iPad_photo_roll_in_Windows_Explorer.jpg (14.62 KiB) Viewed 15629 times
=
Photos_App.jpg
Photos_App.jpg (11.7 KiB) Viewed 15629 times
This means, that images you take and annotate with Matscope (or Labscope) do not show up here, unless you export them to the Camera Roll first:

But since the Camera Roll cannot deal with our metadata, you will lose information like magnification info, etc. - often that is not a problem, but for the cases where it is a problem, there is yet another way to get the images (either in CZI format or JPG including metadata) off the iPad, using the USB cable:

You can use iTunes, which is freely available for download from apple.com. Every App that stores documents on the iPad, as the ZEISS apps do, will be listed under the “Apps” section while the iPad is connected via USB. Clicking Labscope or Matscope brings up the list of images that are currently stored in the App's storage, i.e. all files that you can see in the Files tab of the App. They can then be copied to an Explorer window by drag & drop, or with the “Save to…” button. Copying files into the App's Files tab can also be done by drag & drop, or with the “Add…” button.

  1. Connect your device to your iPad using a USB cable.
  2. In the file menu, select the "Import from" option visit this site.
  3. Your device should appear. You can now drag and drop your photo files.

  1. Connect your device with a USB cable and iPhoto should automatically open. Note: If iPhoto doesn't automatically open when you connect your device, you can adjust the setting. You may need to download the app if it isn't already on your iPad.
  2. Select "Import All" to backup iPad photos to external drives, or you can select individual pictures to transfer. visit site
  3. iPhoto will also give you the option to delete the photos from your device if you wish to do so.
