Operating System

Q: Which operating systems does Labscope support?
Answer: for v3.3.1 Labscope, please see the required system below:
Windows 10 (64-bits); iOS 13 or higher for iPad and iPhone.

Connections

Q: How to connect a microscope/camera to Labscope?
Answer: there are multiple connection ways, and different microscopes and cameras support different ways of connection. Please check the microscope/camera manual or consult with ZEISS representatives for details.
For WIFI connection through a WIFI router, you could use ethernet cable to connect the microscopes/cameras to the WIFI router firstly, then wirelessly connect the Labscope device to the WIFI router.
The other connection ways are WIFI adapter connection (Specified WIFI adapter is necessary), direct USB connection (successful installation of camera's USB driver is necessary), or direct Ethernet connection (proper settings of the manual IP is necessary). Once the connection is established correctly, the microscopes/cameras will be displayed in the microscope view of Labscope.

Q: Can Labscope connect to more than one microscope/camera at the same time?
Answer: Yes, within a LAN network, Labscope will discover the supported microscopes/cameras and establish the connection automatically.

Q: What is the maximum number of microscopes/cameras with connected phones/tablets/laptops for a digital classroom?
Answer: The network performance of your lab/classroom is one of the main factor for determining the number of ZEISS Microscopes and Labscope devices you can hook up. Labscope is built to handle more than one hundred microscope cameras simultaneously. With the right network layout even the largest classrooms and labs can be handled. Please consult with your sales representatives or application engineers for more info.

Q: What is the maximum number of iOS/Windows devices to be connected to one microscope camera simultaneously?
Answer: This depends on camera types, connection ways, your network performance and network environment. For just connecting to several iOS/Windows devices simultaneously, using the Wifi adapter (if the camera supports) as the connection way is OK. For larger scale of connection, using Ethernet cable through a WIFI router can support 12 iOS/Windows devices or even more. Again, this has many interference factors.

Q: How to establish a remote education or remote lab?
Answer: Teacher or lab administrator uses PC/Laptop or tablets to connect to microscopes with Labscope, and can easily share the screen to students or other colleagues who are at home or other places via Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams or other platforms. Connecting to multiple microscopes at same time and teacher/administrator can switch between different live images. Except for sharing the live view, teacher or administrator can also do the measurement, annotations, comparisons, image processing, reporting and sharing the result directly in Labscope.

Q: My WIFI router has multiple network ports / sockets - to which one should I connect the microscope by a Ethernet connection?
Answer: The microscope needs to be connected to any one of the LAN ports, not the WAN ("Wide Area Network" = Internet) port.

Q: When camera is running and I switch from USB connection to WIFI connection, why Labscope cannot find the camera?
Answer: in such case of changing the connection ways, please close Labscope, power off the camera, then change the connections and restart camera and Labscope in sequence.

Functions

Q: Will upgradation or uninstallation of Labscope clean the microscopes' configuration data (name, adapters and objectives, etc.)?
Answer: For Windows, both the upgradation and uninstallation will not clean the configuration data. For iOS, the upgradation will not clean it as well. But the uninstallation will clean, please be cautious.
For encoding systems, like the smart microscopy solution (Axioscope/lab 5 + AC202/208) which will keep the configurations stored in the microscope, so the configurations will not be cleaned even after uninstallation of iOS Labscope.

Q: How to find the Laser Pointer and Drawing function in Labscope?
Answer: In global settings, go to the module manager and activate the "Education" module, then restart Labscope and the functions of Laser Pointer and Drawing will be shown up in the main toolbar.

Q: How can I change the storage destination of images in Labscope?
Answer: Labscope for iOS only provides default storage path which is according to Apple's rule and cannot be changed by users.
Labscope for Windows provides the function that user can easily choose the file storage path by clicking on the path in Files view.

Q: How can I share my files between Windows and iOS devices?
Answer: By using Apple's "Files" App (a native pre-installed App after iOS 13), you could easily create a folder connection to a shared folder of Windows device. Here are the steps: open the "Files" app in iOS device, click on the three dots on the top, and click on "connect to server", input the IP address the Windows device you want to visit, and click "connect". After finished, you can see the shared folder in the Files App of your iOS device. The above steps are only needed to be done for the first time. Then, in Labscope you can easily share the images to the folder by choosing "share", and "save to Files".

Q: How can I add and edit report template?
Answer: Please find the current report templates in C:\ProgramData\Carl Zeiss\Labscope3\ReportTemplates Then copy a template, rename it and open it to modify your own templates. The iOS version does not support the editing of templates yet.

Cameras related

Q:How to make correct connection for getting the encoding information from Smart Microscopy(Axioscope 5/ Axiolab 5 + Axiocam 202 mono/ 208 color)?
Answer: Ethernet / Wifi connection of Labscope devices is the right way for getting the encoding information (current position of objective and reflector). Using a USB-Type-C cable connection will not read the encoding information for the mentioned hardware.

Q: How to use wired connection for smart microscopy (Axioscope 5/ Axiolab 5 + Axiocam 202 mono/ 208 color) in Windows Laptop?
Answer: You could use direct Ethernet connection from the camera to your Laptop. Or you could use USB-Ethernet adapter, the USB port should be plugged in your Laptop and the Ethernet port is for the connection to camera. In the mean time, the IP address of your Laptop should be set manually to 192.168.202.x (x can be any number between 2 to 254). Remark: the smart functions including encoded nosepiece info can only be obtained under Ethernet connection or Wireless connection.

Q:Why my Primotech 3MP works fine on v1.x or 2.x Labscope, but seems cannot work on v3.x Labscope?
Answer: It happens when the Primotech 3MP has a very old firmware. Labscope v2.x includes a firmware upgrade pack in the software and will detect if the firmware can be updated. After finish the upgrade, the v3.x Labscope will be able to work with it.

Q: When do a single snap, sometimes why the field of view(FOV) of snapped image is different(taller) than the live view.
Answer: It depends on camera types, for cameras like ERc5s, and microscopes like Primo Star HD, Primotech 5MP and Primovert HD, they have two snap resolutions with different aspect ratio: 4:3 and 16:9. When you choose a snap resolution 2560*1920 (4:3) different with the live view aspect ration (16:9), then the FOV of snapped image is taller than the live view.

Labscope Mat version

Q:What is the functional difference of Labscope Mat (v2.x) and Labscope (v3.x)?
Answer: The Labscope Mat version(2.x) includes the dedicated material functions when connecting to Primotech with Advanced MNA. Labscope v3.x is more focused on digital classroom and life science applications which supports more cameras and microscopes, also other new functions, see the detailed product info of Labscope v3.x in Labscope landing page.

Q: what are those dedicated material functions?
Answer:The Labscope Mat iPad version(2.8.4) includes the Grain size, PCB layer thickness, multi-phase measurements, particle and porosity measurements. The Labscope Mat Windows version(2.9.1) includes the multi-phase measurements, particle and porosity measurements. These functions are only available when the advanced MNA is associated to Labscope Mat version.
